Tourism Research Australia

Domestic tourism, particularly the domestic overnight leisure market, is a key segment of the Australian tourism industry.  The domestic market represents almost 70 per cent of total tourism leisure expenditure.

Tourism Research Australia will support government and industry to better understand and address the challenges of the tourism industry by providing research and sharing this research with industry relating to identify, forecast and analyse:

  • increasing competition
  • changes in consumer behaviour (distribution systems, technology)
  • economic conditions and policy settings in market segments (value of the Australian dollar, unemployment, Gross Domestic Product growth, competition policy, consumer protection laws)
  • changes in aviation carrier capacity (technology, airports, air rights), and
  • confronting the traditional barriers of time, distance and cost.
