About Tourism Research Australia

Tourism Research AustraliaTourism Research Australia manages tourism surveys that cover the inbound, domestic and outbound markets. Key information collected from travellers includes:

  • expenditure
  • places visited
  • activities
  • accommodation
  • transportation
  • demographics

Additionally, Tourism Research Australia:

  • provides a range of research and analysis including the State of the Industry report , which assesses the current performance of the tourism industry and the emerging trends that will affect the industry.
  • provides the Secretariat to the Research Advisory Board , one of the nine Working Groups established by the Tourism Ministers’ Council to implement the National Long-Term Tourism Strategy.
  • develops forecasts of tourism activity on behalf of the Tourism Forecasting Committee. Tourism Research Australia models regional expenditure and employment and estimates the economic impact and contribution of tourism at the national and regional level.
  • developed a destination visitor survey program which provides customised statistical data at a regional level. The projects are regional initiatives and are aimed at non capital city destinations.

Tourism Research Australia offers a Statistical Enquiry Service for industry operators, academics and other interested parties.
