IMPACT

This document is published monthly, shortly after the release of the Australian Bureau of Statistics' monthly statistical publication Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia (ABS Cat. No. 3401.0).

Australian Tourism Satellite Account 2010–11

The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) for the Australian tourism industry on an annual basis. A TSA is recognised internationally as the benchmark for estimating the economic contribution of tourism. The Australian TSA provides measures of tourism gross domestic product (GDP), tourism gross value added (GVA), tourism trade, and employment in tourism. The Australian TSA is funded by the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

The 2010-11 TSA was published on 21 December 2011. A Summary of Key Results is available.

Tourism Industry Facts and Figures at a Glance

The Tourism Industry Facts and Figures at a Glance May 2011 [PDF, 2MB | DOC, 5MB] document is a pocket-size booklet providing the latest statistics for the industry. This document is released twice a year. 

Tourism Employment Data

The Tourism Channel provides a comprehensive suite of tourism employment data, including an employment overview, profiles for each tourism occupation, state characteristics for each occupation, profiles for tourism industries, links to key occupational career and vacancy websites for each tourism occupation.

Changes to the Australian Bureau of Statistics Survey of Tourist Accommodation

The Survey of Tourist Accommodation (STA) is a quarterly survey undertaken by the ABS to measure the demand and supply of tourist accommodation. Funding for the expanded scope component of the STA ceased at the end of the June quarter 2010. Results for the June quarter were published on 30 September 2010. The STA will continue to collect and publish information from accommodation providers in the core scope of the survey for the September quarter 2010 onwards. Visitor Visa Statistics

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) produces the Visitor Visa Program Report, a quarterly publication that provides data on the visitor visa program administered by the department. The report has been produced to assist tourism industry stakeholders and policymakers. Data is sourced from several departmental visa processing and recording systems. The first report was released in December 2011.
