Background: The aim of TQUAL Grants is to stimulate sustainable growth in the Australian tourism industry. It will do this by supporting innovative, high-quality tourism products that contribute to the long-term economic development of Australia. The tourism industry is a significant driver of the Australian economy.  In 2007-08, it provided a direct contribution of over $40.6 billion to Australia's Gross Domestic Product, supported 497,800 jobs and provided almost $23.6 billion in export income. However, tourism is facing a changing environment with increased competition from emerging tourism destinations and the impact of the global financial crisis. If the Australian tourism industry is to compete effectively for both international and domestic travellers, tourism product must remain fresh and innovative, as well as economically competitive.

TQUAL Grants will be delivered by AusIndustry in the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research on behalf of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.
Since 2004, the Australian Government has provided almost $30 million in support for 177 tourism projects across Australia through the Australian Tourism Development Program (ATDP). A list of funded projects can be viewed through the AusIndustry website.
