About Tourism Research Australia
Tourism Research Australia (TRA) is a branch of the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism (RET) that provides statistics, research and analysis to support industry development, policy development and marketing for the Australian tourism industry.
Statement of professional independence
The recent appointment of the inaugural Chief Economist for Tourism was to reinforce the importance the Government attaches to the provision of sound economic advice to government and industry in support of the sustainable development of the tourism industry. In line with practice elsewhere in government (including RET's Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics, BREE), the statement of professional independence ratifies the manner in which TRA has been and continues to operate.
