The Australian Government has been working with the States and Territories and with the Australian tourism industry to develop a National Tourism Accreditation Framework (NTAF).
The NTAF will provide an umbrella framework under which existing quality and accreditation programs will continue to operate but will have access to a common national brand and standard oriented to building consumer purchasing preference and corresponding market benefit for accredited participants.
Development to Date
Agreement has now been reached on the fundamentals that will underpin the operation of the NTAF and implementation work has commenced. Key development milestones include:

Agreement on a governance structure for the NTAF, including establishment of the Tourism Quality Council of Australia (TQCA) and supporting roles for the Department of Resources Energy and Tourism and Tourism Australia.
Work on implementing the NTAF is continuing. Expressions of interest for membership of the TQCA closed on Monday 18 January 2010.
Expressions are currently being assessed. Nominations will be considered by the Australian Standing Committee on Tourism in March, and later on, by the Tourism Ministers' Council
The NTAF is expected to be operational around July 2010.
