About investment in the tourism industry
As a key priority of Tourism 2020, the Australian Government and state and territory governments are actively encouraging investment in the tourism industry and implementing regulatory reform to improve the investment environment.
Regulatory reform
Under Tourism 2020, the Australian Government is working with State and Territory Governments through the Investment and Regulatory Reform Working Group to ensure that Australia remains competitive through greater investment in quality tourism products and services. On 4 May 2012, Australia’s Tourism Ministers agreed to implement reforms to encourage new tourism infrastructure developments. In particular, Tourism Ministers have agreed to prioritise reforms to: improve tourism investment facilitation; and tourism development planning processes within high natural amenity areas including National Parks, for delivery by the end of 2012.
Tourism investment services
To support the regulatory reform agenda, Minister Ferguson has expanded Tourism Australia’s remit to include facilitation of tourism investment in collaboration with other Australian Government agencies. In April 2012, Tourism Australia, the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism and the Australian Trade Commission entered into a five year partnership to deliver a tourism investment attraction program.
