Resources

The Australian Government is committed to creating a policy framework to expand Australia's resource base, increase the international competitiveness of our resources sector and improve the regulatory regime, consistent with the principles of environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Waste Transport

Transport of radioactive material in Australia, including radioactive waste, is governed by the Code of Practice for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material [PDF, 3.44MB], published by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. The code of practice is based on internationally accepted standards published by the International Atomic Energy Agency and ensures that waste is packaged and transported commensurate with its potential hazard to people and the environment.

Radioactive materials are safely transported around Australia and the world every day, with more than 30,000 packages transported annually in Australia. Over the past 40 years there has never been a transport incident resulting in a significant radiological release harmful to the environment and public health.
