The Australian Government is committed to creating a policy framework to expand Australia's resource base, increase the international competitiveness of our resources sector and improve the regulatory regime, consistent with the principles of environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Fuels

The Australian Government’s goals in relation to liquid transport fuels are to foster the development of an internationally competitive downstream petroleum sector with a focus on developing appropriate fuel standards to facilitate the adoption of advanced emission control technologies. The Australian Government also supports the development of a competitive and sustainable alternative fuels sector.

  • Petroleum Refining and Retail – petroleum refining in Australia, retail and wholesale market reform and information concerning the Trade Practices (Industry Codes - Oilcode) Regulations 2006 (the Oilcode) and its review.
  • Alternative Fuels – information concerning biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel, as well as gaseous fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG).
