Areas V07-1, V07-2 and V07-3
Gippsland Basin
Location
Release areas V07-1 to V07-3 are located in the northeastern part of the
offshore Gippsland Basin and cover parts of the Northern Platform and Northern
Terrace (Figures 2 and
5).
Area V07-1 consists of 23 blocks (14 full and 9 part blocks covering approximately
1,239 km2), and lies southward of the State’s Three-Mile Zone surrounding
the Sole gas field retention lease VIC/RL3. Water depths in this shallow
shelfal area vary between 50 m and 200 m.
Area V07-2 spans the easternmost part of the Northern Platform and Northern
Terrace and consists of 21 blocks (1,422 km2). Water depths typically range
between 70 and 200 m, but increase to 300 m in the southernmost portion.
Area V07-3 consists of 32 blocks, covering approximately 2,160 km2. It is
located to the north of the Bass Canyon and covers parts of the easternmost
Northern Terrace and Central Deep, where water depths exceed 1,000 m.
