Location

Areas NT07-3, NT07-4, NT07-5 and W07-4 are located in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf about 400 km southwest of Darwin. Over most of the sub-basin, water depths are less than 100 m (Figure 1). The release areas overlie the offshore portion of the Petrel Sub-basin, which is part of the Bonaparte Basin (Figure 2). The Northern Territory release areas are located to the east of the Blacktip gas accumulation, and southeast of the Petrel and Tern gas accumulations. The Western Australia release area is located to the northwest of the Turtle and Barnett oil accumulations.

Area NT07-3 comprises 53 graticular blocks or parts thereof, and covers an area of approximately 4075 km². No wells have been drilled in this release area, but it abuts the Petrel retention leases NT/RL1 and WA-6-R (Figure 1).

Area NT07-4 is a designated frontier area and comprises 77 graticular blocks or parts thereof, and covers an area of approximately 5910 km². It contains one well, Billawock 1.

Area NT07-5 comprises 53 graticular blocks or parts thereof, and covers an area of approximately 3820 km². It contains two wells, Shakespeare 1 and Kinmore 1, with Bougainville 1 drilled just to the west.

Area W07-4 comprises 19 graticular blocks or parts thereof, and covers an area of approximately 1180 km². It contains the well, Matilda 1.
