About the package
On 23 July 2010 the Australian Government announced the A Cleaner Future for Power Stations package of measures.
The package announced new emissions standards and reporting requirements for all new coal-fired power stations, such as:
On 1 July 2011, the EEO program expanded to include electricity generators.
Amendments were made to the NGER Act to enable publication of facility level data reported by electricity generators. These were included in the governments Clean Energy Future legislative package which passed through Parliament in November 2011.
On 13 December 2011 the government announced its decision not to proceed with the introduction of emissions standards or CSS-ready requirements for new coal fired power stations, through the release of the draft Energy White Paper.
