Connecting Renewables Initiative

About the initiative

The Connecting Renewables Initiative was established by the Australian Government in 2010 to connect renewable energy projects to electricity networks.

Following the announcement of the Clean Energy Package on 10 July 2011, the government committed to consolidating all unallocated funding previously allocated to the Connecting Renewables Initiative into the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

Collectively, around $1.7 billion in uncommitted funding will be available for the ARENA Board to invest in new renewable energy projects including projects that involve renewable energy-related transmission infrastructure investments.

The allocation of funding to enabling technologies is a matter to be determined by the ARENA Board and will be set out in the ARENA's funding strategy and subsequent work plan.
