EEO Home | Contact

Australia's transport industry is highly diverse and includes road, rail and water freight, domestic air travel and metropolitan public transport providers.

In 2008-09, EEO participants in the transport sector used 143 PJ representing approximately 2.4 percent of Australia's total energy use.

Energy Efficiency in the Transport Sector

Corporations in the transport sector have identified a range of energy efficiency opportunities including many related to fuel optimisation, lubricants and electricity use at depots.

In 2008-09, EEO participants in the transport sector reported identifying 9.9 PJ of energy savings, and adopting 6.9 PJ of energy savings. 'Adopted' energy savings includes opportunities reported under the categories of implemented, commenced implementation or to be implemented.

Transport Significant Opportunities Register

The Significant Opportunities Register contains a cross-section of the significant opportunities described by the transport corporations in their EEO Public Report. The spreadsheet format can be filtered to find specific types of opportunities of interest. The register aims to facilitate access to different ideas that may assist corporations to identify opportunities to increase energy efficiency.
