Australia's manufacturing industry is highly diverse and produces a wide range of goods and products: Primary metals such as aluminium and steel, industrial and construction materials such as chemicals, cement and bricks, through to consumer products such as electrical appliances, paper, foods, beverages and cars.
In 2008-09, EEO participants in the manufacturing sector used 1,153 PJ, representing approximately 19 percent of Australia's total energy use.
Energy Efficiency in the Manufacturing Sector
Corporations in the manufacturing sector have identified a range of energy efficiency opportunities including many related to waste heat recovery, automated process control, improved boiler efficiencies and installation of variable speed drives.
EEO participants in the manufacturing sector have reported identifying 76.9 PJ of energy savings, and adopting 37.0 PJ of energy savings. 'Adopted' energy savings includes opportunities reported under the categories of implemented, commenced implementation or to be implemented.
Energy savings in the manufacturing sector^
^ Energy savings totals include the energy savings of opportunities with a greater than four year payback, voluntarily reported by corporations.
Significant Opportunities Registers
The Chemicals Manufacturingand Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Significant Opportunities Registers contain a cross-section of the significant opportunities described by manufacturing corporations in their EEO Public Reports. The spreadsheet formats can be filtered to find specific types of opportunities of interest. The registers aim to facilitate access to different ideas that may assist corporations to identify opportunities to increase energy efficiency.
Upcoming Events
Currently there are no upcoming events for the manufacturing industry. If you are holding an energy efficiency event that will be of interest to the manufacturing industry please contact us.
