Energy

The Australian Government is committed to the provision of adequate, reliable and affordable energy to meet future energy consumption needs and to underpin strong economic growth, consistent with the principles of environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Energy Efficiency

The Australian Government recognises the enormous potential for energy efficiency to enhance economic prosperity. Increased uptake of cost-effective energy efficiency technologies and processes will help Australian businesses maintain competitiveness as Australia moves towards a low carbon economy.

The Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism helps Australia's industrial energy users realise the benefits of improved energy efficiency by working to ensure that businesses can use an effective energy services market to make informed investment decisions relating to energy efficiency.

The Department administers the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program, which encourages large energy-using businesses to improve their energy efficiency by identifying, evaluating, and reporting publicly on cost effective energy savings opportunities.

TheĀ National Framework for Energy Efficiency (NFEE) is the main mechanism by which all governments in Australia coordinate national action on energy efficiency. Through this collaborative approach, NFEE delivers a range of policy measures, with a focus on increasing energy efficiency among energy users in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

In the Australian Government, the The Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency has responsibility for energy efficiency as it applies to other sectors of the economy, such as the residential and transport sectors.
