Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Acreage Release 2013-14
The Australian Government is considering an offshore greenhouse gas (GHG) storage assessment acreage release in late 2013 or early 2014.
As a first step in the acreage selection process, stakeholders are now invited to nominate areas to be considered for inclusion in the planned offshore GHG acreage release.

The nomination period for areas for the 2013-14 offshore GHG storage assessment acreage release will close on Friday 28 June 2013.
About the acreage release
The Australian Government's carbon capture and storage legislation regime provides for a system of access and property rights for the geological storage of GHG in offshore waters under Commonwealth jurisdiction.
The acreage release enables prospective carbon capture and storage (CCS) companies to obtain the necessary property rights and hence the investment certainty they need to proceed with commercial storage operations.
2009 GHG acreage release
The 2013-14 GHG acreage release will be the second release of offshore GHG storage assessment acreage in Australia. The first release was in 2009 and has been finalised.
