Resources

The Australian Government is committed to creating a policy framework to expand Australia's resource base, increase the international competitiveness of our resources sector and improve the regulatory regime, consistent with the principles of environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Uranium

Australia's uranium industry plays an important part in the global effort to address climate change. In 2007, Australia's uranium exports contributed $881 million to the Australian economy. If proposed expansions to existing mines proceed, Australia could become the world's largest producer and exporter of uranium.

Further information about Australia's uranium industry is contained in the Department's Uranium Industry Fact Sheet [PDF, 131kb].

Enquiries concerning the uranium industry should be directed to the Uranium Industry Section via the Department's Contact Us webpage.

Uranium Industry Framework

In August 2005, the Uranium Industry Framework was launched to provide a platform to examine and address a range of short, medium and long term impediments to the development of the Australian uranium industry.

In November 2006, the Report of the Uranium Industry Framework Steering Group was released and in January 2007, an Implementation Group began its work to guide the removal of impediments faced by the Australian uranium industry.

The Steering Group Report and further information on the Uranium Industry Framework is available on the Uranium Industry Framework webpage.
