About Energy Efficiency
The Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism helps Australia's industrial energy users realise the benefits of improved energy efficiency by assisting them to make informed investment decisions relating to energy efficiency.
The Department administers the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program, which encourages large energy-using businesses to improve their energy efficiency by identifying, evaluating, and reporting publicly on cost effective energy savings opportunities.
The National Strategy on Energy Efficiency is the main mechanism by which all governments in Australia coordinate national action on energy efficiency. Through this collaborative approach, the NSEE delivers a range of policy measures, with a focus on increasing energy efficiency among energy users in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. The Ministerial Council on Energy is responsible for the delivery of several important measures in the NSEE. These measures are delivered through the National Framework for Energy Efficiency.
The Australian Government is further supporting the improvement in business energy efficiency through measures contained in its clean energy future plan. For more information visit www.cleanenergyfuture.gov.au .
In the Australian Government, The Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency has responsibility for energy efficiency as it applies to other sectors of the economy, such as the residential and transport sectors, small and medium businesses and commercial buildings.
The Department is also working with the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency to further investigate the merits of a national Energy Savings Initiative (ESI).
