The Government Property Group (GPG) and the National Framework of Energy Efficiency (NFEE) have jointly committed to the development of Green Leasing for commercial office buildings. The intention is to develop a consistent approach to sustainable leasing practices across all national government jurisdictions and ultimately lead to the development of an intra-jurisdictional leasing method that formalises the obligations of a non government entity as the lessor and the government as a lessee.
The primary objective of the Government Leadership through Green Leases project is to generate energy and greenhouse gas savings by increasing the operational performance of buildings within the commercial office market through the implementation of a National Green Lease Policy by Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments for their office accommodations.
