Under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the Act), members of the public can seek access to documents and files held by the Department.
Applications must be in writing or sent by email.

The Act requires that a decision is to be made on an FOI request within 30 days unless the time is extended by agreement with the person making the FOI request or where consultation with another individual, organisation or state or territory is required in relation to the documents requested.
There may be charges to be paid where extensive searches are required to locate requested documents and for the decision-making time and copying effort involved.
